Not every course should count the same toward your average - a heavier course load deserves more weight, and that is exactly what credit-weighting does on the standard US 4.0 scale. Your GPA is the average of your grade points, where each course counts by its credit hours — a 4-credit B pulls harder on your average than a 1-credit A does. Enter up to eight courses (or skip any you haven't taken), and the calculator shows your GPA, total credits, and quality points.
An A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course yields GPA 3.43 (24 quality points ÷ 7 credits).
An A− (3.7) plus a B+ (3.3) in equal-credit courses equals exactly 3.5 GPA.
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is converted to a point value (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.), multiplied by the course credits, summed, and divided by total credits. The result is your credit-weighted GPA.
What is a weighted vs. unweighted GPA?
This is the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. Some schools award "weighted" GPAs that add points for honors or AP courses; check your registrar's specific policy.
How do I raise my GPA?
Retake courses where you scored low (new grades often replace old ones), or enroll in high-credit courses where you perform well—high-credit grades move the average more.
